PAEDIATRIC HIGH DEPENDENCY UNIT AT LIMERICK REGIONAL HOSPITAL WIN EBS COMMUNITY FUND

EBS AWARDS €10K TO THE PAEDIATRIC HIGH DEPENDENCY UNIT (PHDU) AT LIMERICK REGIONAL HOSPITAL

May 2012: EBS has today announced that the Paediatric High Dependency Unit (PHDU) at Children's Ark, Limerick Regional Hospital has won the overall prize of €10,000 in the EBS Community Fund competition. The organisation was one of 88 who received funding from the EBS Community Fund and had been put forward to compete for the national prize.

The Limerick-based Paediatric High Dependency Unit bet off strong competition from organisations representing other counties and received the majority of the 30,000 votes cast by the public to help it win the competition.

Speaking today, Dr Roy Philip, Consultant Paediatrician at Limerick Regional Hospital, commented: "We are delighted to have won the overall prize in the EBS Community Fund. We are proud of the valuable work which we carry out for the critically ill children in the community and we want to continue providing this service to our infants and children closer to home. We are extremely grateful to everyone who got involved and took the time to go online to vote for us."

The EBS Community Fund, which is now in its fifth year, provides support to projects that benefit local communities throughout Ireland. After being initially selected by their local EBS office in Crescent Shopping Centre, the Paediatric High Dependency Unit at Limerick Regional Hospital was then chosen by a panel of independent judges to go forward to represent County Limerick in the national final. The final round of the competition was decided by a public vote with the cause that received the most votes awarded the overall prize of €10,000 in funding.

Niamh Toland, Manager EBS Crescent Shopping Centre said: "The EBS Community Fund gives non-profit organisations around the country a chance to be recognised and rewarded for their contribution in their local communities. It is designed to allow the public to choose a group that they can connect with and which they feel provides a vital service for the community. The Paediatric High Dependency Unit at Limerick Regional Hospital is a very worthy winner and EBS Crescent Shopping Centre is very proud to award them with the overall Community Fund prize of €10,000."
