What is a SEPA Instant Payment?

SEPA Instant Payments let you make credit transfers in seconds. These payments are processed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Verification of Payee

We are introducing a new security check for SEPA payments called ‘Verification of Payee’. This added security measure lets you check the name on the account you are paying before making a payment.

SEPA Instant Payments

The Single Euro Payment Area (SEPA) is an initiative to simplify euro payments across the European Union and several other European countries.

With a SEPA instant payment (or instant payment) payments are processed within seconds, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

A SEPA standard payment transfers money between two accounts in the SEPA zone and usually takes 1-2 business days.

A SEPA instant payment transfers money between two payment accounts in the SEPA zone and is processed within seconds, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. 

You will be able to send instant payments on Your Accounts Online from 8 October 2025. 

Yes, you can send SEPA instant payments at any time on any day, including weekends and bank holidays.

There are a few exceptions to this, such as times when the system is undergoing maintenance.

No. We don't charge any fees for sending SEPA instant payments.

The following EBS accounts are able to send SEPA instant payments:
Moneymanager
Instant Access

For SEPA instant payments payments that you send through Your Accounts Online, we will notify you of the payment’s success or failure just after you’ve sent it.

There is no limit on the number of SEPA Instant payment transactions you can send daily.

Limits

With the introduction of SEPA instant for outgoing payments you are now able to manage your own daily or transaction instant payment limit.

You can apply these limits to SEPA instant payments only.

No, it's optional to set up a payment limit.

You can set up and update your SEPA instant payment limit on Your Accounts Online by following the steps below:

1. Log in to Your Accounts Online
2. Click on 'Manage'
3. Select 'My Instant Payment Limits'
4. Select one of the following from the dropdown -
       'My SEPA Instant Daily Limit'
                          or
        'My SEPA Instant Transaction Value Limit'
5. Enter the Amount
6. Select 'Save'
7. Your new limit has been saved
8. To remove a limit, select 'Remove'

You can also move between a daily limit or transaction limit at any stage. You cannot set both the limits at the same time.

Yes, there is a limit of €5,000 on EBS Your Accounts Online.

No, SEPA instant payment limits only apply to SEPA instant payments.

SEPA instant payment limits do not apply to own account transfers or self to self transfers within EBS.

Daily Limit: A daily limit means you can make any number of SEPA instant payments in a day, up to the SEPA instant daily limit that you have set.
e.g. A daily instant payment limit of €500 means the total value of SEPA Instant payments for a day cannot exceed €500
 
Transaction limit: Transaction limit means you cannot exceed your SEPA instant payment limit in any one instant payment transaction. E.g. if you set a SEPA instant transaction limit of €100, any individual SEPA instant payment cannot exceed €100.

If both people on a joint account set different  limits, the limit for each person applies to only their instant payments that they send.
