Planning for Retirement

I’d Like to Plan My Retirement

‘What kind of lifestyle would I like to have when I retire?’ No matter how far away you are from your golden years, it’s worth asking yourself what type of lifestyle you’d like to have down the line. You might want some financial independence when you retire or maybe you want to live the life of Riley - that’s okay. This doesn’t have to be a pipe dream.

Your pension will be pretty important for your future plans as it will replace your income and help fund your retirement. To get started, read through our helpful guides below. Or why not book a free financial review with your local EBS advisor?

My Free Retirement Review

So you’re thinking about getting a free retirement review – but what will the meeting involve? Your financial advisor will work with you to create your own personalised retirement plan, which will outline the financial steps you need to take to reach your future goals. They will ask you certain questions to get to know you, and to get a clear picture of what kind of plan is just right for you.

What topics will we cover?

We’ve outlined the top four topics you’re sure to hear during your retirement review, so you know exactly what to expect.

  1. The amount of tax relief you’re entitled to
You’re entitled to tax relief on your pension payments, which means that pensions are one of the most tax efficient ways to save for your retirement. Not too shabby! And even better, did you know that the older you are, the more income tax relief you might get? We will check to make sure that you are getting everything you are entitled to.
  2. The performance of any of your existing plans
Maybe you’ve started saving for your retirement already. We will review all your pension plan arrangements no matter who they are with.
  3. Are you willing to take a little risk?
Some plans and funds will be riskier than others – we will go through each and their level of risk to figure out your comfort zone for each of the funds in your plan.
  4. Have your needs changed?
So maybe you’re within ten years of your retirement age. This could be the right time to have another look at your plan to make sure it still suits your needs. We might find that you’re better suited to lower-risk or medium-risk funds as you move closer to retirement.
